Author Guidelines
General requirements for manuscripts submitted for publication in the “Vestnik Moskovskogo universiteta. Seriya 18. Sotsiologiya i politologiya” ("Moscow State University Bulletin. Series 18. Sociology and Political Science") journal.
Material submitted for publication in the journal must
- correspond to the journal subject matter (analysis of the main trends of social development, methodological and theoretical issues of modern sociology and political science, particular areas of sociological analysis, studies of issues and specifics of modern society and institutional structure, political processes, issues of social and state politics, social and organizational management);
- be a self-sufficient scientific research (include the author's contribution into statement and research of the chosen issue). In order to ensure the quality of published materials, and to observe copyright, all submitted materials are verified by Antiplagiat system.
- be relevant (contain elements of scientific and informational novelty);
- comply with the technical requirements for manuscripts as required by the journal.
The article found to be in compliance with the requirements may be reviewed by the editorial board and sent for peer review (expert evaluation) and, if required, discussed by the editorial board. These actions are followed by decision regarding the publication of the manuscript with consideration for the journal's editorial calendar. The Editorial board reserves the right to reduce the size of articles and to edit them in accordance with the requirements of scientific journals

If you wish to publish your article in the “Vestnik Moskovskogo universiteta. Seriya 18. Sotsiologiya i politologiya” ("Moscow State University Bulletin. Series 18. Sociology and Political Science"), you are welcome to submit your materials
for No.1 (January-March) – before August 20,
for No.2 (April-June) – before November 20,
for No.3 (July-September) – before February 20,
for No.4 (October-December) – before May 20,
each year.
Reprints require the reference to the journal. Manuscripts shall not be returned. Authors shall not be paid fees for publication of manuscripts. Publication of manuscripts (including manuscripts of postgraduate students) is free of charge.
Manuscripts submitted to the journal shall comply with the following requirements:
Materials shall be submitted in a digital form (including pictures, such as diagrams, schedules, flow charts, etc.).
All submitted materials shall contain the following:
1) article title in Russian and English;
2) information about all authors’ names in Russian and English, affiliations and academic degrees, contact telephone and e-mail, city, country.
3) abstracts in Russian and English (minimum 200 to 250 words each);
4) keywords (6-8 words or combinations) in Russian and English;
5) the body text. Articles submitted from teachers and research assistants shall be of size of 1 author's page (40,000 symbols) to 1.3 author's page (»53,000 symbols). Articles submitted by postgraduate students shall be of size of 0.5 author's page (20,000 symbols) to 1 author's page (40,000 symbols). The size in symbols includes blanks, symbols on figures, display pages);
6) list of references after the body text. Lack of the references in the submitted manuscript can be a reason for rejection of the article.
List of references shall be placed after the body text and arranged as follows:
a) list of references in Russian (in Cyrillic alphabetical order without numeration). This list shall be titled "Список литературы";
b) The second list shall be titled "References". This list shall include transliteration (as per BSI system. The text may be transliterated using special service, such as translit.net) and English translation of above mentioned list of references in Russian, as well as the list of references in foreign languages (transliteration of materials in Russian + list of materials in foreign languages in common list in Latin alphabetical order).
In order to quicken the preparation of the article, the authors are recommended:
1) to number the pages,
2) to use ordinary citations (not in-text or end-of-text types),
3) to save the pictures as .tif,
4) to use citation-type quotation marks (“”), and not guillemet-type («») quotation marks (except for the case of «………“…….” ……….»),
5) not to use a non-breaking space.
Technical requirements for the manuscript
- 1. Style of the body text:
– Text, tables, diagrams, schedules, pictures and flowcharts in the manuscript shall be in white-and-black colours only;
– Microsoft Word text editor (.doc, .docx, .rtf formats);
– body text typeface shall be Times New Roman (font size 14);
– inter-line spacing 1.5.
- 2. Style of references:
- All data must have a reference to the source. All citations must reference not only to the source itself, but to the pages in the source. Authors shall be responsible for usage of data not intended for open access publication as per Law of the Russian Federation. Ordinary footnotes (not paginal or end-of-text).
- Direct speech and citations shall be marked by ordinary quotation marks (“”, not «»), except for the case of «….“..”….».
- If the citation was not taken from the original source, then the source data shall contain details (citation by:...):
Citation by: Lobov G. A. Autoaggressive behavior of young men of military age (clinical characteristics and medical psychiatric examination): diss. abstract of ... Candidate of Med. Sc. M., 2008. P. 3.
- The footnote symbol shall be placed before the punctuation mark (dot, comma, colon, semi-colon).
Example: …According to A.I. Kosarev1, as well as other researchers...

"Statistical indicators of absolute and relative number of suicides in Russia 1956 through 1991 show that suicides did not stop with statement of the period of «full-fledged socialism», moreover, their number among the Soviet people has been constantly increasing: in 1960, their number was slightly lower than 20,000 (16.2 to 100,000 people); in 1980 — about 48,000 (34.7), and in early 1980s, Russia took its steady place among the leaders by the number of suicides, yielding only to Hungary: the number of suicides in USSR in 1984 was about 54,000 (37.9 to 100,000)[1]”.

- 3. Style of the References:
The list of references of an article shall consist of two parts:
1) List of references in Russian - Список литературы (alphabetical orders without numeration);
2) List of references in Latin – References (alphabetical, without numeration (transliteration of above mentioned publications in Russian as well as foreign publications)). The References list shall include transliteration (as per BSI system. Authors can use transliteration services, for example, translit.net) and titles translated to English [in brackets].
Therefore, the References list shall be composed as follows: type the surnames and initials of authors in Roman letters, transliterate the title of the publication, include the English translation of the article title, transliterate the date-line, include "(in Russian)" text in the end of the line. References to foreign sources shall be left unchanged.
Lack of the references in the submitted manuscript can be a reason for rejection of the article.
List of references shall include the data on all publications mentioned in the article. If several publications of the same author were mentioned in the article, then they shall be placed in chronological order, and the works published within the same year shall be marked by letters a, b, c...). Printed and digital publications shall be included in common order without separating the latter in the end of the References list.
The list of references shall include the following:
– books (monograph, collected articles, etc.) – surname and initials of the author (if any, in italics), book title, location of publication (city), year of publication;
– journal articles – surname and initials of the author (in italics), article title, double slash (//), – journal title, year of publication, volume (if any), issue. DOI shall always be included if the article has any
Articles not conforming to these criteria shall not be considered and sent for peer review.

After the article is approved for publication, a copyright transfer agreement needs to be signed between the author (co-authors) and the Publisher (download the agreement).
The scanned copy of the agreement signed by the author (co-authors) should be sent to vestnik@socio.msu.ru . The printed original of the signed agreement (in duplicate) should be delivered to the Editor in person or sent by mail:
